چکیده

We extend the thermodynamic theory of gravitational clustering in an expanding Universe to include the scale dependence of the ratio, b, of gravitational correlation energy to thermal energy. The predicted form of the gravitational quasi-equilibrium distribution function is unchanged by this scale dependence. This generalization of the theory contains no free parameters, and clariies many earlier results. It explains the improved agreement found previously between simulations, observations, and theory when b is allowed to depend on scale. Our new results are connrmed by comparisons with N-body simulations which now agree to an accuracy of about 98%.

Weakly Nonlinear Clustering for Arbitrary Expansion Histories

Bouchet et al. (1992) showed that in an open or closed Universe with only pressureless matter, gravitational instability from Gaussian initial conditions induces a normalized skewness, S3 ≡ 〈δ 〉 〈δ〉 −2 , that has only a very weak dependence on the nonrelativistic-matter density. Here we generalize this result to a plethora of models with various contributions to the total energy density, includ...

Modelling the Nonlinear Gravitational Clustering in the Expanding Universe

The gravitational clustering of collisionless particles in an expanding universe is modelled using some simple physical ideas. I show that it is indeed possible to understand the nonlinear clustering in terms of three well defined regimes: (1) linear regime (2) quasilinear regime which is dominated by scale-invariant radial infall and (3) nonlinear regime dominated by nonradial motions and merg...

Scaling Relations for Gravitational Clustering in Two Dimensions

It is known that radial collapse around density peaks can explain the key features of the evolution of a correlation function in gravitational clustering in three dimensions. The same model also makes speciÐc predictions for two dimensions. In this paper we test these predictions in two dimensions with the help of N-body simulations. We Ðnd that there is no stable clustering in the extremely no...

Gravitational Clustering from χ Initial Conditions

We consider gravitational clustering from primoridal non-Gaussian fluctuations provided by a χ model, as motivated by some models of inflation. The emphasis is in signatures that can be used to constrain this type of models from large-scale structure galaxy surveys. Non-Gaussian initial conditions provide additional non-linear couplings otherwise forbidden by symmetry that cause non-linear grav...

Cosmological Shock Waves in the Large Scale Structure of the Universe: Non-gravitational Effects

Cosmological shock waves result from supersonic flow motions induced by hierarchical clustering of nonlinear structures in the universe. These shocks govern the nature of cosmic plasma through thermalization of gas and acceleration of nonthermal, cosmic-ray (CR) particles. We study the statistics and energetics of shocks formed in cosmological simulations of a concordance ΛCDM universe, with a ...
